Two vitally important events for anyone interested in making disciples of oral learners...

For several years now believers from around the world have been gathering annually to discuss the importance of making disciples of oral learners using oral communication means and oral strategies. This regular event has become a “Mecca gathering” for Bible storying practitioners, church planters and academics in the field of orality as well as regular church members and ministers of the Gospel who want to learn more about this vital issue.
Below I am including a document that was recently circulated about the two conferences:

Forums for Primary and Secondary Oral Learners to be Held in Colorado Springs, Colo., USA, November 14-16 & 15-17, 2006

The International Orality Network (ION) is offering two unique, overlapping conferences to address distinct aspects of reaching oral communicators for Christ. These conferences represent the largest forums available for the rapidly emerging field of orality-focused ministry. The forums are intended for ministry leaders, field practitioners, educators, media producers, pastors and interested lay people.
ION serves churches, denominations, mission agencies and individuals committed to effectively communicating the Good News to all people. For 200 years, Western church and missions strategies and materials have been produced by literates for literates. Today, 2.5 billion people can only receive information orally — and another 1.5 billion receive more than 95 percent of their information in spoken form. Even in traditional highly literate societies, the number of oral learners is increasing because more people prefer to use a variety of oral communication styles.
Conference Details
“Making Disciples of Primary Oral Learners” (November 14-16) will focus on those who work with unreached people groups. The conference will run from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday night and will include speakers and sessions that address the needs of primary oral learners (those who rely totally on oral communication methods). It includes special CEO's and pastor's tracks. Potential attendees are encouraged to register early as space for is limited to 250 people.

“The Inside Story: Radically Improving Your Ministry Skills” (November 15-17) will focus on the audience who can read and write, but prefer to learn from the visual media, personal experience and the stories of others. Four story types (their story, my story, other's story and God's story) will be presented with practical ideas for how to more effectively use story in ministry. Registration for this inaugural event is limited to 150 people.

Both conferences will be held at the Wyndam Hotel in Colorado Springs. Conference fees for each event are $275 (full-time students may attend for a reduced fee of $175). Most meals and snacks are included in the fees, but lodging is an additional $82 per night for each room. The Primary Oral Learners event begins Tuesday afternoon and ends Thursday evening late. The Secondary Oral event starts Wednesday afternoon and ends Friday at noon.
A joint session will occur on Wednesday evening, but the rest of the conferences will be separate. Attendees must choose to participate in only one conference. One individual cannot attend both in their entirety. ION does offer the option at initial registration, under “Registration Type,” to add the extra day from the Inside Story event for an additional charge.
